Egyptians, Greeks, artists and expats arrive late and stay into the wee hours of the night. Round tables pepper the spacious hardwood floor of the charming dining area. Add high ceilings, tall windows and a great view of the square to complete the effect. The space is sometimes used as a venue for performances, at which time members dine instead in the long hall to one side. A walk around the club reveals a comfortable lounge area and a beautiful outdoor garden terrace that is open in the summer. There are no menus. Regulars just order and the chef decides how he feels about making it. Greek salad is always available, as is the much-touted escalope pane. The fried calimari is excellent, but inexplicably comes without tzatziki sauce. Lesser successes include the spaghetti bolognaise and kofta. Fully licensed, Johnny Walker bottles grace many of the tables. Beer (cheap and served cold) and wine are also served.
