I'm an assistant professor for Internet and New Media at VU University Amsterdam, Department of Communication Science.
I'm studying virtual communities since years...I started with doing research on MUDs (multi-user dungeons) in the Nineties; and I wrote my PhD dissertation on social identification with virtual communities.
Currently, I'm interested in social network sites such as Hyves. I am not only interested in how people present themselves on these sites and how they maintain their social relationships, but also in how SNS can be used for marketing and political campaigns.
I'm also interested in the use of Web2.0 technologies in organizations.
