Jacques Koeweiden

Creative Director of Koeweiden Postma

Jacques Koeweiden Creative Director of the design studio, Koeweiden Postma, which he originally founded with Paul Postma in 1987.

Their vision as a studio is to address ‘real issues and themes’ that offer room for fusion between function, idealism, pleasure and professionalism. They believe that a strong editorial role is always fundamental to their work. They strive to ‘build bridges between communities’, which they see as perhaps the most important contribution of the design profession to society.

Their work range includes visual identities, logotypes, books, posters, exhibition design, packaging, motion graphics, and campaigns, with a balance between ‘large’ to small ‘high profiled’ projects. In the past two years, the studio has become more involved in cross-cultural design and issues of integration. Koeweiden and Postma are co-founders of 'Mind the Gap', a series of lectures that investigates the (new) role of design, art direction and new media in a changing world of communication.

They have received numerous nominations and design awards, both domestic and international, such as the Directors Club Holland; Dutch Theatre Annual Awards; Dutch Design Prize; British D&AD; Art Directors Club New York; Type Directors Club New York; Art Directors Club Tokyo; Type Directors Club Tokyo; The 100 Show (USA); German Design Prize; London STD (UK); TIA (USA); Chaumont Poster-Festival (France) and the Hong Kong Poster Triennal (CHINA). In 1997 Koeweiden Postma was chosen as one of the Graphis 10 Best Agencies worldwide, European Design Prize (Gold).

Articles about their work has been published in magazines and books like: IDEA(Japan); Direction(UK); Graphics International(USA); Items, Credits and Adformatie(NL); Creative Review(UK); Graphis(USA); Axis (Japan) and Typography Now(UK); The Graphic Edge (UK); Eye (UK); Typography now#2; New Typographics (Japan); Dutch Posters 1960-1996; Graphis Poster(USA)... etc. They have exhibited nationally and internationally at venues like the MOMA (NY), The Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and at various group exhibitions in the US, France, Australia, Malaysia and Germany.
