Demonstrators using Çapulcu

Çapulcu (tsja-poel-tju) means something like ‘ Plunderer’ and was used by Erdogan to describe the group of demonstrators. As many opposite parties, minorities and conquerors did before, they embrace their ‘ nickname’ and used it with pride. In the Netherlands we call it a ‘ geuzennaam’, referring to the nickname the insurgents used during the struggle for freedom of the Netherlands (from 1568 till 1589).
