Zorg in de Stad #2: Hacking Healthcare

6 mrt 2015

Designing Amsterdam's Future Healthcare.

Healthcare faces many major challenges. The aging population, the impact of chronic diseases on people’s personal life, and the increasing technical opportunities to assist both patients and healthcare professionals. Furthermore there is an urge to cut healthcare spending and to improve standards of care. Therefore, a new approach to these complex problems is important. In order to innovate healthcare practice, not only specialist knowledge of (future) healthcare professionals is required, but also skills such as creative thinking, ability to observe and empathy are of great importance. These are the skills that characterize (future) artists.

How to use cultural design to activate people with dementia to move more often? Or, how to use design to cope with loss in times of oblivion? Hacking Healthcare, an educational program by the University of Amsterdam and Gerrit Rietveld Academy in collaboration with Pakhuis de Zwijger, brings together future artists and (medical) scientists to think of unconventional solutions to several concrete problems of Amsterdam’s (health)care institutions (Cordaan, Odensehuis, AMC, OLVG, GGZ inGeest and ‘Bureau Studentenartsen’)

During this final event at Pakhuis de Zwijger, students pitch their projects to a wider audience. With lectures by:

  • Marlies Schijven (AMC surgeon and serious gamer), who connects the creative industry to (health)care innovation
  • Esther Vossen (curator of the artist-in-residence program of GGZ Altrecht), who uses art to reflect on the healthcare system

Moderator: Michiel Hulshof (Tertium)

This programme will be held in English. Free entrance, click the red 'RESERVEER' button on top of this page to RSVP.
