Take a peek into the mind of Brazilian artist-musician Tom Zé, one of the most innovative avant-garde pop composers of the past century. Blending interviews and footage of past and current performances, the documentary details Tom Zé’s roots in the tropicalismo movement and subsequent fall into obscurity before his revival through the help of new wave band Talking Head’s frontman David Byrne.
More amazingly, the film manages to capture the artist’s irrepressible energy and enthusiasm for his music. Tom Zé is not just a force to be reckoned with but must be seen to believe.

DOKU.ARTS, the Stedelijk Museum and the Mediafonds are organizing a seminar, “ARTCASTING” at TrouwAmsterdam/De Verdieping, focusing on art museums as producers of the moving image. Contributors include Tate Modern (London), Centre Pompidou (Paris), Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
