In cooperation with the World Wide Video Festival, Mediamatic will organise a special workshop about interactive narration for video artists.
In this intensive 5-day workshop, 16 international video artists will study the particular qualities on non-linear storytelling and build their own interactive narrative. From the perspective of their own discipline, the participants will study the possibilities and problems of interactive narratives. How to create tension in a non-linear environment? What happens when several parallel lines are each other's context? What roles do time and timing play in a non-linear narration? And most importantly, how can the users' choices be integrated into the meaning of the work?
The participants use the latest version of the elegant and easy-to-use Korsakow System, developed at the University of Arts (UdK) in Berlin. The system consists of an editing environment for non-linear narratives as well as an elegant presentation tool for interactive film and audio projects. More information on the Korsakow System can be found at www.korsakow.com .
The workshop will be supervised by Mediamatic in cooperation with the UdK. The coaches are Florian Thalhofer, Klaas Kuitenbrouwer, Professor Willem Velthoven and eight students of the UdK.
The workhop takes place from Monday May 12 until Friday May 16, 2003, from 11 am till 5 pm at the Passenger Terminal, Piet Heinkade 27 in Amsterdam.
