Jamie, Barbara at Ik R.I.P.
This photo was taken with the ikCam during Ik R.I.P. at Mediamatic. Ik R.I.P. was an exhibition about online presence after death (2009).
Jamie Templeton is a photographer who’s work is of familiar places and people, with a subtle nod to the adaptation needed to survive. Whether it’s a nature scene or an urban portrait, there is a discovery to be made, within a mid-ground where the familiar provides a home to a displaced neighbor. His images fall into several series; of farming, of street scenes, or of the plants in his garden – all familiar places of exploration and discovery. What you will find in his photographs are insects as they begin to consume flowers, people sleeping in full view of mid-day commuters, evidence of farming practices found in suburban areas and borderline-legal street performers with tourists happily posing for their own pictures. These photographs are familiar scenes to anyone who has traveled even a short distance from home. They are not exotic locations or exotic people – they are us – in our ongoing state of change.
