Instead of an exhibition, Maurer United Architects (MUA) were launching a catering concept, Colabar, at Mediamatic Supermarket.
For years now MUA have been vexed by the fact that the decision for a cola-brand in bars and restaurants has already been made, due to binding contracts.
In this concept the personal taste of the consumer is neglected.
In Colabar the visitor makes his own choice from innumerably many national and international brands of the seemingly identical product cola.
While enjoying an intercontinental cola the consequences of globalisation were discussed in the exhibition space, which was been converted into a barroom.
At the same time MUA was launching a game-world in which the visitor may experience being a bubble in a blackish-brown transparent fluid. The dark side of pop culture and the symbolism of bottom-up gravity was visualised interactively and aesthetically by MUA.
Architects Marc and Nicole Maurer do not have a signature style of designing, they have a conscious approach toward matters of design. They are known for their research of
bottom-up design processes, which they use to realize culturally authentic designs.
