Budapest is a city with 1,5 million inhabitants. It is a tipical european city , less confortable and fancy then most of the western european cities. Right now they are building a new metro line , and making a lot of other constructions , like renwing 2 bridges on the danube from the 7 in total, that means there are a lot of zones wich are closed down from the car traffic., and look like after war. The city has a lot of green zones in the center but the Buda hills and forests are only half an hour far from the center with public transportation, so you can get out of the city to a huge silent forest really fast if you are fed up with the pollution and noise of the downtown. .From september to june there are some bigger cultural festivals like the autumn festival with contemporary theatre, music and dance shows from all over the world, apart from these temporary festivals there are always a numerous exhibitions in non profit galleries and conferences in cultural organisations. The subcultural life is not so big as in London, Berlin or Amsterdam, but still I can say that it is colorful and a lot of thing is going usually.
