The three pieces have quite a different character but all deal with the contrast of strict musical material and that of more open sound based playing. The idea behind this is to give composed music a more lively and flexible outcome. A central element in the pieces is the use of so called ‘extended techniques’, widening the sound qualities of each instrument involved.
