Stefan Glerum (Amsterdam, 1983) studied illustration at the Academy St. Joost in Breda and worked as an assistant to Joost Swarte. As a freelance illustrator and designer he mostly does commissioned work, but he always tries to execute his designs as autonomous as possible. This way the boundary between illustration and free work stays undefined.
On his sources of inspiration Glerum states: “I’m inspired by the clear line, Art Deco and Bauhaus, but also by psychedelic designs from the sixties and seventies. A certain tendency towards the past that I like to combine with popular themes 27 year old boys deal with. On the other hand I really like drawing a big airplane with little soldiers in it.”
Stefan’s recognizable style, his choice of subject and humour make his work accessible to everyone. At the same time his designs are interesting for viewers with more knowledge of art history and graphic design. As a young designer he plays an important role in the Amsterdam creative scene and has made designs for among others het Parool, Rednose Distrikt, VPRO, Blend, Paradiso and the Concertgebouw.
