Workshop: building a Delta 3D printer

6 & 7 Sept, 10:00 - 17:00

3D printers are evolving and are quickly finding their way into ateliers and even our homes. This rapid development is due to it's fertile community, where enthusiasts openly share information about building and designing with 3D printers. This is your chance to get involved, learn how to build a 3D printer and start printing your 3 dimensional designs.

About the Workshop

In collaboration with 3D printer expert Bas Molkenboer from 3dprintingforyou and artist Eric Klarenbeek, we set up a workshop where you can learn how to build a 3D printer! The model we will be building is one of the latest 'Delta' types, called a Rostock.

For who?

This workshop is meant for all levels of expertise.
If this is the first time you heard about a 3D printer, it's a great introduction to start building and using them. If you have already been building 3D printers, this could be an opportunity to ask expert Bas Molkenboer your more advanced questions, e.g. about modification of the unit.

What will you learn?

This workshop will teach you how to build a 3D printer, use 3D design software and print your first object.

The model we will be using is one of the latest innovations in the 3D printer scene, called a 'Delta' printer. This type utilizes 3 arms instead of the traditional dual axis design, giving a printer a much higher possible print height. Also, in contrast to the traditional plastic printers, we will be using a special 'paste extruder' that allows us to print various paste mixtures, and even chocolate! Bas will also explain the basics of 3D design software in which you can mold your designs like clay.

After two days of building, learning and printing you will have ample knowledge to get started yourself.

Next

This workshop is a great preparation for the 3D printing with life workshop by artist Eric Klarenbeek during our 3 day BIO ME symposium on 18-20 september. In this follow up, Eric will focus on preparing special kinds of paste and printing with living organisms like mycelium based materials.
