Founded in 1996, the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] is a transdisciplinary centre dedicated to research, creation, production, presentation, education and conservation in the field of digital culture. It brings together creators who work with digital technologies, fostering collaboration among diverse artistic and scientific disciplines, establishing partnerships with industry and educational institutions and promoting its members at home and abroad.

Manifestations

SAT[Art&D] supports IT projects in IP network environments and a studio for research, production and commission of artwork that also serves as workspace for artists in residence.

[Espace] SAT a 10,000 square foot multipurpose presentation space mostly presenting live electronic music & video events by national and international artists.

SAT[Liaison&Strategy] a program for event-oriented network-building among academic and scientific communities as well as liaison with the industry.

SAT[TransForm], a program for educational purposes and knowledge transfer activities

In Reality

The SAT is a great place to meet very interesting people. The exhibitions bring together artists, those posing as artists, intellectuals, and those posing as intellectuals.

I've never taken a course but a visitor to Montreal could drop in to the SAT for an "introduction to DJing" or something a bit more theoretical like "Mixed Reality, Art and Mobility."

In the past, SAT has hosted some of the greatest nights out in Montreal (drugs never too far from reach). Artists like Vitalic, Boys Noize, and Simian Mobile Disco have all performed here, but you also get tastes of the experimental. (Avoid anything Saintwoods, it instantly implies fist pumping and college bros - even if they're presenting Steve Aoki.)
