By providing the décor and social ambience of a Chaikhana this project will create a quantum leap into a Central Asian tea house turning it into a public place of a unique ambience of social and cultural interaction, where the simple act of drinking tea extends into a creative form of art and ritual. By fading in and out various forms of media and activities [visuals, sound, music, narrative, performance, dance, workshops, networking and internet browsing] and highlighting a number of ethnographic, social and cultural issues the visitor will experience the intrinsic and timeless futurism of Central Asian civilization in the age of digital communication.
The participants of this project represent a variety of Asian, Eastern European and Dutch artists: OMFO; Albina Degtyareva, DJ Goldfinger, the group Polaris, ensemble Mashrap, Almagul Menlibayeva, Fay Lovsky, Sameena Khan and more.
This event is initiated by Primitive Equations [PEQ – collaboration project of two “soundmen” Gherman Popov [OMFO] and Maxim Shaposhnikov [DJ Goldfinger]. PEQ collects and works with anthropological and ethnographical data such as images, sound and artifacts, using them as a source for so called “research performance” which explores the archetypes of modern music and popular culture.
