After being raised in Indonesia, Guatemala, and Ecuador, Joel Laumans moved to the Netherlands to pursue his passion for design and technology. During his studies, Joel had the opportunity to work on several challenging projects with many interesting people. His work has varied from being purely a new media designer at Fabrique, to researching and developing a human centred design process. Joel is interested in different aspects of design, but is most passionate about designs that improve the way people interact with technology. His most recent achievement in this area was his graduation project on Adaptive User Interfaces, researching methods to automatically create more personalised experiences for individual users interacting with computers.
Now that he has graduated, Joel is aware that the coming months of his life will be full of new surprises. At the moment he is busy setting up a new design company together with his former classmate Lemmy-boy Hoogendoorn. Together the two designers are going to bring a new perspective and fresh ideas to the design industry.
Joel Laumans studied Communication & Multimedia Design at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences; a Bachelor’s programme that focuses on the area where design, communication, new media, and people overlap. CMD was ideal for Joel because it challenged him to develop creative solutions that push the boundaries of new media design, while being feasible and applicable in the real world.
