In 1994 Careof and Viafarini established a partnership for the organization and management of a range of services for promoting contemporary art. In 1995 they begin to operate in agreement with the Youth Department of Municipality of Milan, in order to offer to public a series of services for the promotion and documentation of contemporary visual arts.

This collaboration resulted in the creation of the Documentation Center for Visual Arts, consisting of a Library, a Video Archive, a Portfolio Archive and ArtBox, database about opportunities.
During the following years these services were more and more developed, also thanks to the contributions by the Municipality of Milan, the Province of Milan and the Region Lombardy, becoming one of the most advanced centers in Italy for managing and distributing information related to contemporary art, also through the use of technology.
In 2000, Careof and Viafarini won an international competition issued by the Municipality of Milan for the establishment of a documentation center for visual arts at Fabbrica del Vapore, which would make available to the public in one venue all the materials and services organized by Viafarini.

In 2008 the DOCVA Documentation Center for Visual Arts opens its premises, bringing together.
