One day I was out on my balcony smoking, when one of the kids fell and hurt himself. Neighbours called the emergency number and within minutes, several police cars and an ambulance had arrived.
I was impressed by the efficiency of the system, but found the scene somewhat chilling. Help was called for, and came, right away—but no one touched the child in the meantime. Everyone just stood and watched.

There’s a garden underneath my apartment balcony where kids play all day long. Their shrieks, cries and laughter can be pleasant enough in small doses, but after a while it grates on the nerves.
