NATURAL HISTORY

Combining his original training in Biology, History and Arts with 15 years of experience in interior design, Korver specialises in using monumental and historical interiors as his canvas. His meticulously painted animals give these monuments a brand new and bristling historical context or brush off the existing one. Gardensnails, Gecko's, Seaturtles, giant Boa Constrictors, Avian Galleries, copulating Butterflies, and Birds gathering nestmaterial thus give new meaning to the concept of Natural History

HISTOIRE NATURELLE III - Peter Korver 2011 - "Histoire Naturelle III - Third in a series of new paintings in the entrance of a 1790's Urban Palazzo on the Amsterdam canals - once the Residence of Napoleons Gouverneur to the Netherlands. In an 18th c. style avian gallery, birds hang around with Napoleonic memorabilia, allthough the doors of their cages seem to be wide open. What ensues is a series of strange and ambivalent images about freedom. Peter Korver | Amsterdam

"DE HANDELMIJ." - Peter Korver 2011 - Fifth of the “Histoire Naturelle” aviary paintings for the entrance of an 18th century urban palazzo on the Amsterdam canals, once the headoffice of the "Nederlandsche Handel Maatschappij". This company, founded by the King in the early 1820's, as an attempt to revive the glory days of the Dutch East India Company, was to evolve eventually into today's ABN AMRO Bank. It's history combines great 19th c. economic recovery with kolonial abuse on a grand scale.

HOTEL DE VILLE - 1813 - HÔTEL DE VILLE - 1813 This fourth of the “Histoire Naturelle” paintings for the Entrance hall of an 18th c. Directoire-style canalhouse, once the residence of Napoleons Gouverneur to the Netherlands, features Amsterdam's City Hall in a period that changed it into a seldom used Royal Palace. A period that changed France from Monarchy into a Republic while the Netherlands went the other way around.
