I sing as the bird sings

With her project “I sing as the bird sings” Kristina Kersa is one of the two winners of the BNG WORKSPACE PROJECT PRIZE 2008. Her interactive installation shows the private idiosyncratic act of listening to a singing bird. Each projection in the installation portrays a person listening to the bird in front of him. The image changes only by occasional passers-by, and the viewer is submerged in bird song upon approaching each individual projection. Man offers his singing bird to the world out of a desire to communicate what is absent in human language.

In her work Kristina Kersa explores the possibility of the moving image installation to represent the actuality of human action.
Images in "I sing as the bird sings" abstract a form of action by removing it from its contextual background, and by repeating the reality without prior staging or later editing. It is the human actions alone that reveal the innermost of human nature, while the medium of moving image in its descriptive and repetitive capacity forces a re-understanding of the ordinary.
