Trans-Actions focuses on the works of visual artist Kristiina Koskentola (FI/NL), which she made during two artist-in-residencies in Beijing and on a journey through the Gobi desert in Mongolia in 2007-2008. The publication contains essays by art theoretician Rubén de la Nuez (Cuba/NL) and art critic/publicist Marjolein Schaap (NL), a conversation with the artist by art critic and researcher Carol Yinghua Lu (China), as well as an epilogue by curator and political scientist Mika Hannula (FI/DE).

Besides reflecting on contemporary Chinese society and art, the most important topics discussed in the book Trans-Actions are: the concept of the abject, cultural representations of ugliness, shamanism, language, and all kinds of misunderstandings.
