Variable Media

a lecture by Lev Manovich

3 Kas 2005

According to Manovich, variable media generation is the new paradigm of the 21st century, and is slowly replacing the older paradigm of standardized mass production, an artefact of the extinct industrial era. His lecture will be an essay illuminating the factors pointing in that general direction.

On the other hand, in a world where I can choose between some 700 different kinds of lip moisturizer, some 5exp9 versions of coffee, 10 internet browsers, a myriad of email clients, et cetera, and where I own a laptop annex portable dvd player annex server annex cellphone, and a cellphone annex mp3player annex hard drive, and a agenda annex cellphone annex mp3 player, no one really needs to tell me that standardized mass production age of levi's 501 is still lurking around.

However, there is undoubtedly a more global trend to be observed, which Manovich can tell you about himself.
