De Brakke Grond at the Art Pie : performances & installations

sun 16 - sun 23 May, 12 pm - 6pm, opening on sat 15 May, 4 pm - 7 pm

De Brakke Grond will be taking centre stage at the eighth Kunstvlaai (‘Art Pie’) using performances, video and installations in the Machinegebouw building that break down the barriers between visual and performing arts. As theatre borrows more and more from the performance and visual arts, we believe it’s time for some reciprocation the other way around: after all, theatre-makers really know how to involve audiences in their work. De Brakke Grond aims to stimulate such crossovers

De Brakke Grond op de Kunstvlaai - Veerle Desmedt

During Art Pie, we will be presenting performers and installation-makers who invite visitors to actively get involved. We will have installations & video by Dolores Bouckaert (co-curator) & Benny Vandendriessche, Geoffrey de Beer, Stief Desmet and Sarah & Charles, and during the two weekends there will be performances by the likes of Stephanie Claes, Bernard Van Eeghem, Hans Bryssinck & Christoph Hefti, Dolores Bouckaert & Griet Dobbels, Ief Spincemaille en Yoshimi. The intervening weekdays you can see work by artists who reacted on an open call.

Just to name a few artists:

Geoffrey de Beer with Avant-garde Below Zero (installation) / daily
Geoffrey de Beer takes artworks by others, freezes them and then sells them in this cooled form. When the time is ripe and the penny has dropped, the buyer can thaw the art out and consume it.

Dolores Bouckaert & Benny Vandendriessche with Troost U (video) / daily
One by one, friends and family pass by a woman in black. Who are these visitors, who are they saying goodbey to? And what is our role as we watch this video?

Sarah & Charles with The Hero dies… (installation) / daily
Sarah & Charles play with everything: time, image, projections and the viewer. We see a living room, two filmed actors and, after a brief delay, ourselves. Who is guiding the story?

The Big Question with Geoffrey de Beer (meeting) / daily
Every day at 4pm you are welcome to discuss The Big Question. You can think with us about a Mobile Museum Shop, an Art Pie in Brussels and similar big plans.

Hans Bryssinck & Christoph Hefti with One Man Snow (performance) / Sat 15 May, 8.30pm
in De Brakke Grond, Nes 45, Amsterdam
