This exhibition will investigate the emotional bond people have with their favourite characters. In researching designer toys and character design, Platform 21 found a hidden world in which creators meet users and professionals meet amateurs, united by their attraction to characters. Characters become alter egos or adopted children. They are metaphors for a world in which we don't need to grow up; an adult world full of love, joy, play and imagination.
The heart of the exhibition will be testimonials by owners, collectors and designers about the creatures they love (or otherwise), accompanied by photos, descriptions, video, and some of the characters themselves 'in the flesh'.
