E-CAP (is the European conference on Computing and Philosophy, the European affiliate of the International Association for Computing and Philosophy (IACAP, President: Luciano Floridi). The conference will deal with all aspects of the “computational turn" that is occurring through the interaction of the disciplines of philosophy and computing.
The conference is interdisciplinary: it will host contributions from philosophy, computer science, social science and related disciplines.
Why Robotics at E-CAP? Because it is rapidly becoming one of the rapidly developing scientific and technological field, so that very
soon humanity is going to coexist with a new class of technological artefacts: robots. From the user’s side, the human/robot coexistence will involve inexperienced psychological ethical, social and economic problems. From the side of the designers, the engineers, and the scientists, the robotics invasion is increasing their responsibilities and ethical dilemmas towards society.
That’s why E-CAP 2007 will have the 11th track, chaired by Gianmarco Veruggio, dealing with Philosophy and Ethics of Robotics.
