&Foam
&Foam, opened January 26th on the Vijzelstraat in Amsterdam, is the newest initiative of FOAM: a concept store with a unique range of (photograpy)books, magazines, posters, limited editions, music, fashion items etc. &Foam cooperates with various partners, as &Foam addresses different themes throughout the year. We had Fashion &Foam, Music &Foam already and after Design &Foam opening this Thursday, Film &Foam will be be the finale of this year.
Design &Foam
The Netherlands has a reputation for design. So-called 'Dutch Design' is recognisable as minimal, experimental, innovative, unconventional and often humourous. The work of a large number of Dutch photographers is also characterised by this. An important aspect of this tradition is that instead of photos acting as a representation of reality, they are entirely staged. A famous example is the work of photographers duo, Scheltens & Abbenes, and their refined photographic still lives. Daily objects are arranged in such a way that they achieve a strong graphical and two-dimensional character.
