Aquaponics Workshop

Build an aquaponics system

24 Mayıs 2014

Aquaponics is a sustainable food production system that combines the cultivation of vegetables and fish. The best way to produce food in the city, because it hardly takes up any space. The fish poo feeds the plants, and the plants clean the water for the fish. Not a drop is wasted. If you'd like to learn how to build an aquaponics system, join us for this hands-on workshop. Aquaponics?

The Aquaponic Gardening Community describes aquaponics as "the cultivation of fish and plants together in a constructed, recirculating ecosystem utilizing natural bacterial cycles to convert fish waste to plant nutrients. This is an environmentally, friendly, natural food-growing method that harnesses the best attributes of aquaculture and hydroponics, without the need to discard any water or filtrate or add chemical fertilizer." The Mediamatic Aquaponics team is currently building an urban oasis based on this ecofriendly system.

Program

We start the day with a tour in our Aquaponics farm where you will see the different system we've designed. During the tour you'll get a thorough introduction to aquaponics and a crash course in biology. After that, with our trainers' help, you will learn how to build a small scale aquaponics farm from scratch. No matter which scale you build, the technique is universal. By the end of the day you will know exactly how to build your own system at home, and know everything about the ecosystem. A crash course in biology, plumbing and carpentry.
