Mark Lewis

Impakt Event

1 Kas 2007

Lewis brings his films, as it were, to 'life' in the kind of space that also holds paintings and photographs. The reason behind this is his object to place both art forms next to each other on equal terms. He prefers to exhibit his works in a museum-like setting where people can stand and move freely.

Landscapes and the social activity taking place therein are recurrent themes in his work. Lewis pays tribute to the classic Hollywood cinema and the avant-garde but never really blends in with either genre. With standard filmic tricks and professional actors he uses the medium of 35 mm film to expose cinema and reveal cinematic clichés.

At this presentation, Mark Lewis will be interviewed by Jelle Bouwhuis (Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam).
