Magic mushrooms
You can make the substrate for growing magic mushrooms at home with simple and affordable materials and equipment. In this workshop you'll learn how to make the substrate mixture and how to infect your rye substrate with the spores of the Psilocybe mushroom. At the end of the evening you'll take home your own jar. After approximately 2 to 4 weeks, the magic mushrooms will appear. The trainer will give you a hand-out with all the information you need.
Mycolab
A few years ago we became fascinated with a product made by Ecovative in New York. They use agricultural waste and mycelium (the 'mother' and underground network of mushrooms) to make materials which serve as a replacement for styrofoam and isolation material. Products that are more or less invisible because they disappear in packages and in between walls. But the material is thoroughly fascinating because it can grow in any shape or form you want and can be either strong and though, or soft and fluffy. We want to investigate this material as an alternative for plastic. After the Paddestoelen Paradijs exhibition in 2011, we will now invite designers and artists to work and play with this myco-material. Can they turn something invisible and unexpected into something tangible and beautiful?

Workshop tickets are € 50, including the use of all the materials and of course you take your freshly inoculated substrate home. You can buy a ticket(s) by clicking this link. Keep in mind: you'll probably be able to harvest mushrooms 2 or 3 times from this single mixture if treated properly. The workshop duration is approx. 2 hours, and starts at 14:00 hours. It's very important to work as sterile as possible which means you have to wear gloves (that we supply for you). If you have any questions, please contact Deborah Meibergen.
