At the second half of August Noorderzon starts in the Noorderplantsoen, a park in the centre of Groningen. Noorderzon is a theater festival but with free entrance for the parc. For the citizens of Groningen the festival provides a significant role as meeting place to strength social bounds. The Noorderplantsoen, and Noorderzon, can be seen as an example of the importance of a park for the social structure and cohesion of a city and its citizens.
