De Saunakaravaan is bedacht door een aantal fanatieke saunagangers uit Amsterdam. Na de koppen bij elkaar gestoken te hebben hebben zij het plan gerealiseerd door een saunafestival te organiseren bij de Sloterplas te Amsterdam.
