Emma van der Leest has great interest in the field of biofabrication and regenerative technologies. Thus, she has become a biodesigner and she incorporates living organisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae or cells into her design processes.
By operating in a multidisciplinary environment, she strives to find and use new grown materials that are completely compostable and minimize the usage of resources that are harmful for the ecosystem.
In her opinion, "the role of the future designer is to explore how nature’s sustainable materials could become tomorrow’s consumer products".
