Hakim Bey

Avant-garde poet / philosopher

Bey's work departs from the academic tradition, rediscovering mystery and magic as means of reconquering joy of life and defeating boredom.

Also, the jihad is on those who would make life obey rules.

Hakim Bey is a zealot for new ideas and concepts necessary for the birth of our intellectual new age. He spends his life
shaking the foundational structures that impede agreement.
Hakim Bey a self-described "anarcho-sufi," generously distributes concepts like "the Temporary Autonomous Zone" and "Poetic terrorism" through books like the TAZ and online. An American, he lived in Iran for many years in the 1970's, became a member of the Moorish Orthodox Church of America, and has otherwise steeped himself in a radical hybrid of Islam.
Bey is truly a refreshing read. He does not degenerate into ideological dogma, but rebels against it, invoking irresistible incantations. He writes on using Moorish curses to banish muzak companies and the use of electronic networks to establish temporary autonomous zones with equal credibility.
