People who design, edit, publish or exhibit books are often confronted to the question on “How to present books?”.

But more than a simple solution to this question, the intention of the work soon became about revealing narratives and playing with the inter-visual and textual contents of the books, at the present moment it is shown to an audience.

Accompanied by the fans; the personal book experience suddenly becomes a public cinema. It is open for connections and interpretations, a magic with no tricks defying the page number originally designed.

This work also questions the role of reading and typography, admitting the idea that we mostly read images. Nevertheless, the topics of the books can immediately be identified; stories can be told.

For BytheWay Projects, Elsa Manceaux & Bernardo Gaeiras mounted the installation on a platform where the books and fans will recreate a city. This installation with books and fans was developed for a site specific purpose, for vitrins and windows—referring to the idea that books are valued by being unaccessible; only showing a spread out of the whole block. (and if it is accessible, our first contact to an unknown book is to flip the pages)

You are very welcome at the opening event on Friday the 2nd of October 2009 from 6 pm till 8 pm.
