Bogomir Doringer (original by Vito Acconci)

23 Jun 2006

What happens when Serbian artist Bogomir Doringer exploits stereotypical Eastern European identity and becomes a thief? Chair Missing gave a clear and interesting answer to this question. The opening was festively accompanied by music by DJ Vitamin K.

Meet Bogomir

During Chair Missing, a documentation of the Illegal Chair Project, a work by Bogomir Doringer was shown at the premises of Mediamatic. Doringer's work touched on the issues of copyright, public/private, heritage, legality and the consumer society. For the Illegal Chair Project, Doringer climbed into a museum dumpster and traveled to Serbia.

Throughout June, five young artists had their go at and with Mediamatic's project space. The project set off with only one artist in the first week, but it rapidly expanded up to five since one artist per week joined up.

Bogomir Doringer was the fourth artist to join Bigger. At that time, he was a student at the audiovisual department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and was originally from Serbia.
