Soundwalk Zuidas Symphony

during Art Amsterdam

15 أيار / مايو 2011

During Art Amsterdam on Sunday, May 15 at 14:00 Soundtrackcity organizes in collaboration with gallery Barbara Seiler the soundwalk Zuidas Symphony by Justin Bennett.

What is the sound of the Zuidas? How different is the soundscape when building progresses and the environment changes daily? How do planners really think about sound? Can sound create a public space? These questions are asked and explained, while the walker is listening to acoustic, historical, psychological and political aspects of public spaces. In his sound walk Justin Bennett wants to give you a different experience and let you listen to the real space ofthe city.

Bennett explains his preoccupation with sound in his text “Let there be noise “(2003) as follows:

“Noise is the sand between your toes, the kink in the cable, the music that keeps you awake and the sea that lulls you to sleep. Noise is accident, chance and luck. Noise is the vibration of life itself.”

The soundwalk is introduced by Renate Zentschnig, artistic director of Soundtrackcity. She will comment on the walk and say something about the power of soundwalking and the opportunities it offers to make you aware of the audible city. Afterwards, participants walk the route together. The walk takes about 60 minutes. Justin Bennett is present.
