This is one of the most enjoyable (free!) experience you can have in Montreal. From kilometers away you can hear hundreds of drummers who gather only because they want to, and this works to beckon thousands of spectators from around the city. The largest event of its kind, Tamtams has evolved into a place for vendors, dancers, and drummers. Also, because it takes place on a massive stretch of green space, Tamtams has become a home for every kind of hobby and an impressive 420-friendly attitude.
LARPers.
Beyond the drummers, beyond the vendors, up-hill through sparse trees, something extremely special goes on at Tamtams. Live action role-players gather, just as the drummers do, every sunday to divide themselves into two teams and make war. Using only home made (plastic, duct tape, foam etc.) weaponry, (swords, knives, axes, maces, cross bows, bow-and-arrows, spears etc. - some weeks there is a fully functional catapult) children and adults alike gather for a very serious, but entirely friendly battle that repeats itself over and over again. Warning: Watching becomes very addictive, and many people end up there for several hours.
