Frank Boyd is Creative Director of Unexpected Media. He has been devising and directing programmes to encourage innovation in creative, social and economic development through the use of old and new media for more than 25 years.
He was founding Director of the UK's award-winning Arts Technology Centre in 1989. He established the European Multimedia Labs (in collaboration with the Society for Old and New Media), the UK's Digital Media Alliance and BAFTA’s Interactive Entertainment Awards before joining the BBC's Innovation and Learning team as Director of Creative Development in 2000.
Amongst other projects, he is now working with Creative London, the Mayor's agency for creative industries, on a series of initiatives to encourage growth in the capital's digital media sectors including the first London Games Festival and a new A/V market, Rights Lab.
In 2005 he designed and directed the first BBC Innovation Labs programme and is currently working on the 2006/07 series.
He is also designing and consulting on creative workshops for Sagasnet in Munich, working with the Waag Society in Amsterdam to launch Innovation Labs at the new Media Guild and directing a Cross-Media Lab in Adelaide, Australia.
