Diarrhea, blood, vomit and sweat are present throughout the movie. We can read their presence as symbols of the nastiness of addiction and withdrawal. Despite the horrors shown, some argue that the movie glorifies drug usage. Does the movie say, fuck choosing ordinary life: there are better ways to live, bring on the blood, sweat, tears and shit? We discussed this amongst other issues during the evening.
This evening was also a good chance to consider the original Trainspotting before watching Trainspotting 2!
