Every 6 Minutes, installation view Amsterdam

"Every 6 minutes, a woman dies of an illegal abortion" is an appalling statistic about the effects of prohibiting access to safe legal abortion. This simple installation was designed by Willem Velthoven for Women on Waves (WoW). The installation consists of a text and a red fluorescent light "X" that blinks every 6 minutes. It was mounted at the outside of the Mediamatic Supermarkt art space during the Women on Waves exhibition in 2003. An other version of this installation was shown in the "Europe Exists" exhibition in Thessaloniki in the same year.
