We are happy to announce a new season of A/artist public events which will kick off on the 18th of September. Through these events, we'll be continuing to explore the neurodivergent experience in the practice of the arts.
Join us to meet Genevieve Murphy and Ignacy Radtke, two artists who playfully explore sensory and social (dis)comforts in their work. Genevieve Murphy uses music and performance art to investigate themes of psychology, disability and the intricacies of human relationships, and Ignacy Radtke's latest project Why Do Hoodie Strings Taste So Good? delves into artistic research on fidgeting and comfort objects.
This event is primarily for neudivergent makers, however anyone who is interested to learn is also very welcome to attend. Please note that the formal presentations will be in English, whilst table discussions will be in both English and Dutch.
Meet the Presenters:
I Don't Want to Be An Individual All On My Own
Genevieve Murphy is a composer and performer from Scotland, currently based in Amsterdam. She combines performance and visual art with contemporary classical music and her concepts are frequently based around psychology and disability. Genevieve's work is both deeply personal and curiously playful, exploring the multitudes of inner worlds and ambiguities contained in each person and mediated in any social interaction.
Ignacy Radtke (Iggy) is a visual artist based in Amsterdam and recent graduate of the Rietveld Academy. His multidisciplinary practice includes installations and objects, and in recent artistic research he has focused on comfort regulation through sensory stimulation. Iggy is a curious observer and an active narrator. In his works he likes to play with the illusion of reality, like to question the credibility of what we see and question the difference between looking at and seeing.
The event will be hosted by the A/artist team, a project at Mediamatic which aims to share knowledge about ASD and neurodiversity, and more importantly, to build a supportive network among artists, designers and art students on the spectrum. Starting in 2021, we have been hosting regular roundtable sessions and publishing articles generated through these discussions.
