Within a single day, the 1600 students at the Baken Park Lyceum managed to put the 120.000 cubes in new wrappers that were made of acid-free paper and had poems printed on them. This exceptional collaboration, which the school dubbed Beef cubes D-Day, took place on Friday, 15 October 2005. On the basis of a teaching package developed by Museum De Paviljoens, many teachers at the Baken Park Lyceum gave Beef cubes D-Day a personal interpretation. On October 15th, the Baken Park Lyceum was transformed into a Broth Park Lyceum featuring special decorations on the outside walls and in the entranceways. At the end of the day, the school organised a festive finale at which the results of the day were announced and students performed some broth-inspired sketches.
Important elements
Job Koelewijn combined poetry and broth, because both of them are concentrated forms of important elements that help people survive: imagination and food. The overwhelming smell of the beef cubes made that visitors to the installation “inhaled” the poetry, so to speak.
In addition, Koelewijn created a second installation: a 15-feet tall construction made of mirror glass. With this sculpture, Koelewijn imitated the structure of DNA. As a result of the use of over 60 bars of mirror glass, the sculpture reflected its surroundings in a fragmented form. The sculpture was constructed and put together in the museum during the installation of the exhibition. Works by Job Koelewijn were previously shown at Museum De Paviljoens in the exhibition Going Up The Country (1998).
