Uitmarkt

The Uitmarkt is the grand opening of the new Dutch cultural season offering over 400 previews of artists performing on 34 stages over a period of three days. The Uitmarkt runs from 29 August through 31 August in Amsterdam’s Eastern Harbour area.

A special information point at the centre of the festival area (near Pakhuis de Zwijger on Piet Heinkade) provides English information and programme guides.

The purpose of the festival is to make as many people as possible aware of the extensive range of cultural events awaiting them in the forthcoming season. The Uitmarkt attracts thousands of visitors every year. Theatrical companies, symphony orchestras, music ensembles, theatres, dance companies, cabaret performers, impresarios, authors, publishers, museums, jazz, world and pop artists, among others, perform at various locations throughout the city. Entry is free. Offering some 450 performances by 2,000 artists at 30 venues, the Uitmarkt attracts 500,000 visitors annually and is thereby the biggest cultural event in the Netherlands.
