Marieke Zwart (1987, NL)
Marieke Zwart is an artist based in Amsterdam. In her work she explores spaces of contact, through a practice that is based on drawing and video works. Her works are build from socially engaged practices. She is interested in definitions of empowerment and independence, the dutch colonial past and personal narratives in relation to society.
After her BA fine arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, 2005- 2009, she did her MA Artistic Research in The Hague at the KABK (2015) and was a resident at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam (2017-18). Zwart worked with psychiatric clients in residencies Het Vijfde Seizoen(Den Dolder, NL) and IBB (Curacao) and collaborated with healthcare company Buurtzorg for a series of Visiting Nurses.
Marieke Zwart is a drawing/fine art teacher at o.a. the Royal Academy of Fine arts in the Hague, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In collaboration with Dirk van Lieshout and Het Vijfde Seizoen, she led and organized an 'art and psychiatry' summerschool program for young artists: 'Looking for Trouble' (2017) and 'My Other Tongue' (2018) and 'Model 2050' (2019), in Amsterdam and Utrecht.
Her work is part of the collection of Stadsarchief Amsterdam and Buurtzorg Nederland and has been exhibited at a.o: 1646 (the Hague), 3331 Arts Chiyoda centre (Tokyo), Museum Dr. Guislain(Gent), Kunsthal (Rotterdam), IBB (Curacao), Fotodok/Casco (Utrecht), Ateliers '89 (Aruba), Cargo in Context (Amsterdam), Framer Framed (Amsterdam), AT5 and Amsterdam Museum.
