Alia Al Shamsi

Alia Al Shamsi, graduated from Griffith University, Queensland College of Art in 2004 with a Bachelor of Photography majoring in Photojournalism. She was part of the Dubai 24hours documentary launched in 2003 and works featured in the coffee table book. She has worked for almost two years as a photojournalist for local media. The youngest participant in the Biennale di Fotografia in Brescia, Italy 2006 under the theme of "Female Perspective" at the Santa Giulia Museum. Her photographs were exhibited long side works by Julia Margaret Cameron,Diane Arbus,Cindy Sherman,Shirin Neshat and others. Her first solo exhibition was in July 2006 at Coral Boutique Dubai, and most recent is Emarati Expressions group exhibition at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi 2009. Joe Farace of American Shutter Bug Magazine wrote in the August 2006 issue:
"...you'll enjoy her travel images...that transcend both her gender and nationality and would be just at much home in the pages of National Geographic".
She recently completed her Photo-Image MA dissertation on Memory and Emarati Identity. A member of the founding team of Durham Arts Festival 2008, and with work experience at the Word and Image department at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
