I work as co-curator of visual arts and theory at Other Futures and as curator at Mediamatic. The forthcoming edition of Other Futures multidisciplinary festival will present speculative visions of multi-species communities. At Mediamatic I work on the Olfactory History of Oosterdok project and on developing exhibition programmes that intertwine the sensorial with the historical.
I was the De Appel Curatorial Research Fellow 2018-19 and an alumnus of their Curatorial Programme 2017-18. Previously, I was based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where I got my start in the field at the intersection of arts and social activism. My interests are in deploying non-western epistemic paradigms and more embodied ways of knowing as modes of extending boundaries.
Alongside Rachael Rakes, I co-edited Practice Space, a book that gathers perspectives and approaches to “the local” from art initiatives around the globe that operate outside of conventional frameworks. My ongoing self-initiated long term research project, Spectres of Batavia in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam pursues the network of collaborations and influence between Indonesia and the Netherlands that haunt the museum’s collection. Recent exhibitions include SUNSHOWER: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia from 1980s - Now (2017) at Mori Art Musuem and National Art Centre, Tokyo and the inaugural exhibition at Framer Framed’s new location, Elsewheres Within Here (2019).
