Ellemieke Schoenmaker

Painter

The visually challenging works by Rotterdam artist Ellemieke Schoenmaker consist of chaotic images.

The paintings are buoyant and multi-layered and their figurative sensitivity is very exuberant, one might even call it manic.

Most of all it seems as if Schoenmaker fills her paintings with a dizzying array of abstract and figurative images. She creates a beautifully constructed landscape in which all things are reduced to outlines; an envelope with traces of several recognizable patterns.

By experimenting with different kinds of paints she makes an interconnection between her works that may be described as intuïtive and refined. her experimental approach of the complex character of the surfaces give a mysterious and inexpressible effect to the paintings.

What remains eventually is an image which contains a combination of of the abstract and the figurative. This combination makes the spectator wonder where the painting stops and the figuring begins.
