More devices, smarter devices and new providers, that is what is expected as a result of the open data policy in Europe. In The Netherlands national en local authorities stimulate open traffic data. As an outcome of this policy the realtime NDW-data are now also available as open data.

Frits Brouwer (NDW) presents the Dutch open data policy, the results of this policy so far and what it means to bring open data in practice for an organization as NDW. From the viewpoint of the open data community, Marleen Stikker (Waag Society) illustrates how it is possible to make better use of the expertise and know-how of developer communities.

The European project CitySDK has been started to achieve this goal and is creating a toolkit for the development of digital services. NDW-data are considered to be complex data in this community, but by adding extra layers the dataset can be made easier to use for the open data community. Is this what is necessary to give open data devices an extra boost?
