Born in Alexandria, Egypt. Malak Helmy works as an artist and writer in Cairo and San Francisco. She co-founded Pericentre Projects in October 2008 who together produced the Kharita Symposium or Urban Trajectories in Cairo in 2009. She received her MFA in Social Practice at the California College of Art in 2010 and her BA in Visual and Performing Arts with a minor in Islamic Art and Architecture at the American University in Cairo in 2005.
