As a continuation of the collaboration with Hivos and Dutch Design Week 2014, innovator Roy Ombatti (Kenya) returns to Baltan Laboratories for the workshop “Design for Development”, dedicated to creating technologies for humanitarian relief.
The issues and project examples used in the workshop are based on real projects and challenges, such as water storage, transportation and sanitation in rural community in southern Kenya. The feedback and data collected might be utilized to develop a design toolkit.
The curriculum of these sessions is based on the International Development Design Summit (IDDS), an intense, hands-on design experience that brings together people from all over the world to create technologies and enterprises that improve the lives of people living in poverty. About IDDS.

Roy Ombatti, Nairobi (Kenya), is an engineer connected to the artists’ collective Creative Garage in Nairobi. Passionate about the use of technology as a way of realizing a sustainable impact on society, Ombatti has developed specially designed shoes for people with a foot disfigurement caused by disease.
